A beginner’s guide to Barga

Tuscany never fails to take your breath away.

Ancient churches. Charming little towns. Incredible wine regions.

You name it, we’ve got it.

If you’re not quite sure where to start when planning your trip, it’s definitely worth taking time out to discover Barga, a peaceful village lying slightly off the beaten track.

Known for its breath-taking countryside and architectural gems, Barga is packed full of cultural experience and can offer something special for every visitor.

Hidden away in northern Tuscany and overlooking Serchio Valley, Barga lies just two-hour drive from Florence and is not particularly well known, unless you’re an Italian resident.

Perfect for a day trip or anyone wanting some peace and quiet away from the bustling city of Florence, the hill-top town is surrounded by mountains.

Walk through its narrow streets, which are not yet plagued by tourists, admire the beautiful architecture and enjoy getting lost in a visual utopia.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, you’re just as likely to hear English and Scottish accents as Italian in this Medieval Town. Look carefully and there’s even a Scottish bar.

Having wandered around cobblestone streets, it is worth climbing the steps leading up to the Collegiate Church of San Cristoforo, the town’s Duomo, and admiring the views.

Offering an incredible panoramic view of Barga and its surroundings, you won’t be disappointed!

For those who want to explore slightly further afield, take a trip to see the stunning mountainous views of Serchio Valley, a largely unexplored area and another hidden gem.
